What to do when you like the design, but not the fabric?

A problem that I am often familiar with or the fit isn’t right for my shape and height.

My sister is both tall and curvy. She bought this H&M dress but wanted it in a different fabric. I also found the fit of this dress not that great. Am I surprised? Not really, as it’s fast fashion. The fit is not custom made and therefore doesn’t fit perfectly to each individual. I changed the design slightly and made the dart into a pleat. This is more flattering for a curvy model, as darts can become very big due to the bigger bust size.

I used a tracing wheel to copy the dress over to paper and adjusted the pattern according to her measurements. From the pattern, I made a toile out of old duvet sheets, therefore reusing old textiles.

Very recently, I have become more conscious of the amount of waste I am producing. I have a lot of fabrics and clothes that I simply don’t use. Instead of throwing away, I am challenging myself in producing my own products, which in turn saves money.

Continue to follow my journey in becoming more fashionable conscious ;)

Tip: instead of using my dot and cross paper pattern, I used newspapers to trace off the dress and create patterns. Best way to make use out of waste ;)
