Hiya, I am Susanna and welcome to Semsah!

Semsah is a blend of my name that is both western and African. Very much of my skill set and fashion background is a blend of two worlds. My interest in the fashion industry peeked, when I saw my mom creating her own garments. She told me she was trained by a tailor in Ghana to freehand pattern cut and knows how to make garments with measurements alone. A skill that is common in African culture, where it seems everyone knows of an aunty or a friend that can make clothes.

I wanted to do the same, however, that’s not the route that I went into.

Traditionally in the West to get into the fashion industry you have to learn the basic skills. I learned at college and uni how to make paper patterns, made to measure, drape and fit garments. Then graduated to enter into the not-so-glamorous side of fashion, a place often forgotten and hardly mentioned, unless in bad press. On the production side, as a garment technologist.

Working within the fashion industry has shown me that behind every garment is a story, a person who brings to life what is often disregarded and undervalued. I created this platform to add value and appreciation for craftsmanship, through Revive - Restyle, Restore - Repair, Redeem - Redesign, Renew - Recreate and everything else to prevent clothing from going into landfills.
