Upcycle baby bib into baby shoes
Don’t know what to do with old baby bibs?
Before throwing away bibs, try this tutorial that is now available on the SEMSAH Fashion Youtube channel.
For this tutorial, I used my friend’s old bibs and transformed the bibs into baby shoes, which her baby was able to wear outside :) Perfect gift to give, as it solves the issue with waste and gives old items new life. Redeem it back to purpose again.
Tools used for this video:
Thread
Sewing needle
Pins
Fabric scissors
Stitch unpicker or thread scissors
Chalk/ washable marker or pen
Measuring tape
Elastic 1cm depth
x2 of the same size bib ( this bib was from Mother's care size 0-6 months)
PATTERN
The shoe pattern is free to download below this page. You can adjust the pattern by folding or adding a piece of paper in the middle of the bottom shoe panel length, to get the desired length.
Before placing the pieces to be cut out from your bibs, check that the patterns fit together and form a shoe shape. If the bib is too small, then add similar cotton fabric to fill the pattern pieces or in my case, cut the front panel pieces to fill in the pattern.
SEWING
Sew the front panel pieces if this could not be cut out in one piece, with an cross or overcast stitch.
Sew the front piece part a to the bottom with a blanket stitch or an overcast stitch.
The next step is to sew the back panel part b to the bottom panel part b with a blanket stitch or overcast stitch. You can use an embroidery thread, that is thicker for a nicer finish.
Based on the ankle measurements. Cut the elastic at least 2cm less, for ease. However, ensure it’s not too tight when worn. I cut this 12cm and eased it along the edge.
Give it nice steam and your shoe is ready:)
Tip: Please use the pattern as a guide only and adjust according to baby feet measurements.
